Near to Sol y Sombra
Sol y Sombra is situated opposite a our local park and Woodland. You can walk around at no charge and admire the very varied European
fauna (more than 50 different species of birds and
mammals). Within the grounds, your children can enjoy the fabulous playground with its magic roundabout and visit the Aquarium.
The River Bourde runs through the Park and animals and visitors alike can enjoy the riverside walk.
Sol y Sombra was built on what used to be the vineyards of the Chateau de Laurenzanne which is now the Town Hall.
It is still possible to walk through the Park and see the Chateau, its grounds, magnificient fountain and old glass greenhouse.
South of Gradignan town
centre, you can visit a unique historical and architectural building. The
Cayac Old Priory, which boasts a history closely linked to the pilgrimages of St Jacques de Compostelle. You can walk around the grounds, along the River Bourde and even stop for a drink at the local restaurant.
Last, but not least of the very local attractions, is our local Wine Museum: L’Ecomusee de la Vigne et du Vin, which houses a collection of around 500 tools dating back from 18th and 19th Centuries.

Everybody knows about
Bordeaux wine! Sol y Sombra sits in the middle of the famous Pessac Leognan appellation in the
Graves Area.
Your host will arrange visits to chateaux and wine
tasting upon request!

From our house, you can also visit the famous historical city of
Bordeaux with its tram, so easy to use to get around. So much for everyone to see! A vast choice of historical monuments, museums, and famous architecture. Walks on various themes. You can choose to stroll along the renovated riverside, or down the longest shopping street in Europe. We can help you book guided tours, or, if you prefer, suggest some walks you can do on your own: we have a selection of brochures and books you can borrow.
A little further: Arcachon and the Atlantic coast
Only 40mn away by car, you can visit the lovely old town of
Arcachon with its harbour, winter town, summer town,
oyster beds, numerous restaurants (sea food, oysters and
others) and magnificent views of the bay of the Bassin d’Arcachon.
From
Arcachon, you can drive to the highest sand dune in Europe: la dune du Pyla, climb it and admire the breathtaking view over the Bassin and the Ocean.
